The first part of this project was the analysis of a design classic amongst the espresso makers (here: Carmencita, Marco Zanuzo) in drawings and measures. Variants of the original were made. Pila (lat.: pillar) is the result of my own scribbles and models, in styrofoam and CAD. No handle obstructs the shape of a doric pillar, the pot is to be touched on the black cylindrical part, which is made of insulating polyamide. The espresso does not leave stains at the opening, because the drops are literally cut off by the metal edge. This was found out in a pouring experiment with tin cans. To refill Pila, it is unscrewed and the handle part with the top pot is lifted off. Also the lid can be unscrewed for cleaning. When closed, the air hole in the lid is always opposite the pouring hole, so that it indicates its position also seen from above. 300ml of espresso can be cooked at one go.
